"He has changed aspects of life as fundamental as the way we have sex, the words we use, how we classify youth and age. All that strange power, all of his world-shaking, reality-transforming impact begins from a simple but mysterious truth: His stories sound to good to everybody."

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (continued)

The short film (as you know, my favorite) of "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" became an storybook. Then the app.

Actually, the app arrived, and then the book was published. The app then included a way to bring the book "alive."

Seriously.

I downloaded the Moonbot app and spent an hour this morning reading and re-reading the book using the app to animate certain pictures in the book via my iPad.

Every new generation gets the cool toys we wished we had when we were children.

Yes, it's another way of bringing reading to people of all ages, and in this digital age it hasn't taken anything away from physical books.

My first love will always be the pages, ink, glue of real books. However, it's very cool to have the multiple ways to enhance the reading experience.

Living Up To The Tatt

If there's one thing I adore more than finding books for myself, it's scoring books for the readers among my family and friends.

Today, four of five friends I scouted books for last week received their loot. All were a hit! I'm especially happy that this gem found a loving home with someone I've long respected and admired:

It was in a box of donated books at a local used bookstore. I asked how much, and due to the condition...a whopping $2!

The publication on this particular volume is 1879. And although it's really in a sad state, it still had all its pages. Due to the few years of bookbinding (at a completely hobby level) that I've done, I was entranced with its binding and cover art. Apparently, the subject matter and writing make up for its rough shape.

If you're curious as to this book, click the title to go to the digital version from the University of California's internet archive. The Ladies' and Gentlemen's Etiquette Book of the Best Society. Information and instruction for those about entering, and those who desire to become educated and polished in general society.

Some days are better than others to be the Bibliovixen.
